Event findings

The focus as a 'Contact' was to collate information on housing in Stretford, whether the community are satisfied or not. This would help us in consideration to create a better housing scheme for the right people and with the right space and purpose. Through the discovery of our findings from the Stretford Streetscape event, 75% of the community involved were satisfied with their homes.

Although majority of the community wanted extra spaces, 25% are of recreational and entertainment space, the others were a mixture of room size and extra rooms.

Through the 'conversation skeleton' process, we have analysed that entertainment and community spaces are lacking. This puts further to my findings for my project.

The houses [in Stretford] are nice! Many are old houses, there are not many new builds. [The houses] are good for families, but not for young people and couples

I have lived in Stretford for 15 years and I think the houses are great. I started off in the tower, then I lived in 4 rental flats and now I have now bought a house.

Here are one of many quotations about the need for entertainment and better social spaces.

I’m sure you’ve heard it already but it seems like other areas around Stretford have had financial input, but not us. The only thing we’ve got is mega Tesco. Stretford needs input

Parent

Stretford is quite empty, there is nothing to do, all our [activity] clubs are in school,. When we hang out we go to each others houses or to Chorlton

“There’s not enough retail activity here for me to promote my business, I go toUrmston”

Lots of old people live in Stretford, there are not many young people around. I think that is because there is not much here

Girl, 15

Sometimes there are pop-up restaurants in the area, and they’re a great success. I think Stretford has enough people to sustain a restaurant. I would also like independent cafes and a market

Female, 30's

We go out in Chorlton. We would like to see a square, a market, restaurants that are not just takeaway, pubs… Costa is always busy, but it would be nice with an independent cafe too

Conclusion?

Although the housing issue is there, the people of Stretford prefer to have developments in entertainment, social and community spaces. Personally,  through conversations observed, the people who came to visit Stretford derived away from housing to talk about other greater issues in Stretford.

Therefore a building  proposal to accommodate the people of Stretford who thrive community, entertainment and variety of food and drinks
